A scheme to raise funds for a variety of charities, mainly local to South Cheshire, has been hailed a great success, raising over £300 in 6 weeks.
What’s Happening on North Street invited charities to apply for their ‘Charity of the Week’ scheme which ran through Lent in the run up to Easter.
Local charities selected included Friends for Leisure, Motherwell CIC, RSPCA Crewe & Nantwich, and Community Recycle Cycles. Funds were also raised for Oxfam and the Alzheimer’s Society and each Charity put up a display and were offered the chance to run an activity or taster session during their week.
Geoff Etherton, Centre Manager & Pioneer Minister said ‘Lent has been seen as a time of self-sacrifice and we encouraged people to give generously and sacrificially to support the work of each Charity of the Week. We were delighted with people’s generous giving, and the Charities involved also raised their profile in our Coffee Shop and got interest in their services including taking referrals.’
What’s Happening on North Street is a Coffee Shop with a difference, offering a range of information, advice, support and activities and can be found opposite the Horseshoe Pub on North Street, CW1 4NJ
