Friends for Leisure provides leisure and friendship opportunities for disabled children and young people across Cheshire East. We have a large team of young volunteers who befriend our disabled young people at the activities we provide or on a one-to-one basis in the community.
In Crewe, we have fortnightly activities:
Any child or young person registered with us is welcome to join in the other activities across the borough, if they are within the age-range.
Some of our activities are open to siblings (holiday activities and bowling) or the whole family.
All the activities are attended by young volunteers, some of whom are one-to-one buddies who help the disabled young people take part in the everyday activities from which they are often excluded, e.g. Cub Scouts, football training or just going to the cinema or for a coffee.
An important part of our role is to provide workshops on disability in schools or colleges, thereby addressing stigma and bullying, and improving knowledge about disability.
