Crewe Heritage Centre 30th Anniversary Weekend
On the weekend of July 22nd-23rd 2017 the Crewe Heritage Centre is celebrating its 30th Anniversary. Opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the 24th July 1987, the Heritage Centre is playing host to a number of guests over the weekend.
The exhibition hall will feature our newly repainted Class 87 locomotive 87035 Robert Burns which will form the backdrop to the Hornby Railways stand where it is hoped to show a working model of the new Class 87 model they are producing. DJ Models will also have a stand in the hall as well as doing 3 presentations in our Audio Visual room in North Junction Signal Box 3 times each day. The exhibition hall will also contain stands/displays from Virgin Trains, Northern, Network Rail, HS2, Cheshire Best Kept Stations, Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership, Mid Cheshire Rail Users Association and the Railway Children charity.
Outside, subject to availability, we hope to have locomotives from Colas Rail, Direct Rail Services and GB Railfreight as well as the Crewe built steam locomotive 46233 Duchess of Sutherland which should be present on the Sunday only (it is working a rail tour from Crewe on the Saturday). These will be in addition to those locomotives which currently are based at the Centre from Classes 03, 37, 47 and 373 (The Advanced Passenger Train). There will also be several vintage ice cream vans on display from Whitby Morrison vehicles and hopefully a selection of classic cars including Rolls Royce and Bentley and other vehicles.
All our signal boxes will be open and the various model and miniature railways operating. There will be a bus shuttle service operating between the railway station and the Heritage Centre from 9.45am until 4pm both days.
