Panto Review: Aladdin at Crewe Lyceum
This year’s pantomime at Crewe Lyceum is Aladdin which opened on Saturday and runs until 31st December. The panto features big names Cannon and Ball, Sid Sloane, Malcolm Lord and Dooby Duck.
The stars of the show are Cannon and Ball with their hilarious scenes including plenty of jokes, singing and props. Get ready to shout ‘Rock on Tommy!’. They certainly had the audience, young and old, in fits of giggles.
Malcolm Lord plays a glamorous Widow Twankey with fabulous costumes and hairstyles. Dooby Duck and friends were so cute and mesmerising – I could watch them all day!
CBeebies’ Sid Sloane has great stage presence and plays Aladdin’s brother Wishee Washee. Aladdin and Princess Jasmine are played by Dan Walter and Danielle Chupak bringing romance, dancing and singing to the stage. There are lots of great musical numbers to sing along to. Mark Turnbull plays the villain Abanazar with plenty of chances for booing.
One of my highlights of the panto every year is watching the young performers from the local dance schools – they always put every ounce of energy into it and look like they’re having a fab time on stage – well done X Academy performers. The twelve days of Christmas song also returns – another one of my highlights which has everyone laughing.
The show lives up to the high standards that we now expect from Crewe Lyceum and Qdos Entertainment with great sets, costumes, sound and lighting – and even a magic carpet ride!
Tickets for Aladdin at Crewe Lyceum Theatre from Sat 10 – Sun 31 December are on-sale now via the Box Office or bookable online at crewelyceum.co.uk
